What the Millennium Link means …
British Waterways, when putting the plan for the restoration of the Scottish Lowland Canals together, didn't just want to re-instate the canals as an isolated exercise, they felt that there was many facets to this project that would yield many benefits.
Although I've never seen it written down in this form, I think their aims could be summarised as follows:
|
Engineering |
An engineering achievement, not just the wheel itself, but the ingenuity of all parts of the new network. |
|
Elegance |
The Wheel and Visitors Center have a functionality and style that adds value beyond their worth. |
|
Enterprise |
The project represents a catalyst for business opportunities and urban regeneration. |
|
Environment |
Opportunities to share, use, and enjoy our nature and heritage for leisure and recreation. |
