Dumbarton Road, Dalmuir, Clydebank

Forth & Clyde Re-opening 28th May 2001

Forth and Clyde Canal Here navigation along the canal was blocked by Dumbarton Road. Because of the nature of the road junction, it was not possible to raise the canal over it so a unique solution was found. A ‘drop lock’ has been constructed to take the canal under Dumbarton Road at the junction. The contract for this work was won by R J Mcleod Ltd. Work on site started in spring 2000 and was completed in May 2001.
