Union Canal

Work started early in 2000 on this major project which will result in the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals being reconnected again in December 2001. This will involve cutting 1.3km of new Union Canal containing two locks, building a low-level rural aqueduct, a tunnel and then a high-level aqueduct, leading to the Wheel boatlift. A holding basin will be provided at the bottom of the Wheel and a Visitor Centre is being constructed at the side of the basin.

There are another two pages showing pictures for this site. To view these pictures please use the back button on your browser or select either
Tamfourhill 2 or Tamfourhill 3.

Tamfourhill 2 has two pictures which show the aqueduct leading to the Falkirk Wheel, while Tamfourhill 3 shows the locks on the 13km long extension to the Union canal on the south side of the Edinburgh –Glasgow rail line.
