Wester Hailes, Edinburgh
Wester Hailes event, 25 August 2001
The first phase of the project was completed in summer 2000 and involved reconstructing an 850 metre length of canal between its westernmost termination and Murrayburn Road. The works included a new road bridge to carry Wester Hailes Road, a winding hole and bankside mooring areas with associated landscaping works. Miller Civil Engineering were the contractors, working to designs by W.S. Atkins.
The second phase at Wester Hailes involved the construction of 850 metres of canal between Murrayburn Road and Dumbryden Road with associated landscaping works. In addition to building six new road bridges, including one at Kingsknowe Road to the east of Wester Hailes, and three footbridges, roads have been realigned and carparking spaces provided adjacent to the ‘new’ canal.
The contract for the second phase was awarded to Miller Civil Engineering. Works commenced on site in spring 2000 and were effectively complete by September 2001.
