Preperations for the Royal Opening
This first image was taken on the 11th May 2002, from the south of the site and shows two things. Firstly water in the caisson - the wheel is now fully operational, secondly it shows the stands being erected for the Royal opening on the 24th May.
However the rest of the images are taken from the north of the site, on the Forth and Clyde Canal where over 20 boats were tied up ready for the celebrations the following day. Notice here the Wee Spark, on it's journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh. The first boat to do this since the 1930s.
All shapes and sizes of craft, all with different histories.
Many of the boats were decked out with bunting and flags for this auspicious occasion.
