Union Canal Extension
Although the Union Canal is still de-watered between the Glen Tunnel and the extension, finishing touches are being made to the new canal, with the canal now watered from Port Maxwell to the new locks.
A view we have seen before, but now the new canal is watered (and the old is drained), as it heads west from Port Maxwell
At the double lock (west) end of the extension the top gates now sport a makers name.
...and the north end of the Antonine Tunnel has traffic lights, closed circuit camera and loudspeaker!
The Aqueduct is now also watered, as tests of the Wheel itself continue.
Finally you can see the "water management" pipework associated with the door seals underneath the end of the Aqueduct. This picture was taken on the 1st March 2002.
